Minimum Age Restrictions

Federal law regulates the sale of ammunition to young people.

It bars licensed manufacturers or dealers from selling long gun ammunition to anyone who they believe is under age 18.

Also they may not sell handgun ammunition to anyone they reasonably believe is under age 21 (18 USC § 922(b)(1)).

 

Federal Ammunition Law

 18 USC § 922

(g) It shall be unlawful for any person—

  (1) who has been convicted in any court of, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;

  (2) who is a fugitive from justice;

  (3) who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 802));

  (4) who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or who has been committed to a mental institution;

  (5) who, being an alien—

    (A) is illegally or unlawfully in the United States; or

    (B) except as provided in subsection (y)(2), has been admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa (as that term is defined in section 101(a)(26) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101 (a)(26)));

  (6) who has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions;

  (7) who, having been a citizen of the United States, has renounced his citizenship;

  (8) who is subject to a court order that—

    (A) was issued after a hearing of which such person received actual notice, and at which such person had an opportunity to participate;

    (B) restrains such person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner of such person or child of such intimate partner or person, or engaging in other conduct that would place an intimate partner in reasonable fear of bodily injury to the partner or child; and

    (C)

      (i) includes a finding that such person represents a credible threat to the physical safety of such intimate partner or child; or

      (ii) by its terms explicitly prohibits the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force against such intimate partner or child that would reasonably be expected to cause bodily injury; or

  (9) who has been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, to ship or transport in interstate or foreign commerce, or possess in or affecting commerce, any firearm or ammunition; or to receive any firearm or ammunition which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.

(n) It shall be unlawful for any person who is under indictment for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year to ship or transport in interstate or foreign commerce any firearm or ammunition or receive any firearm or ammunition which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce

 

State Restrictions: 

 Alaska

 No ammunition or primer shipments.

 California

 No ammunition feeding devices over 10 rounds. No Tracer or Incendiary ammunition.


 No threaded pistol barrels.
Ammunition shipments must go to one of the following:

 - A licensed ammunition vendor with a copy of their license on file

 - A Federally licensed dealer (FFL) with a copy of their license on file

 - A type 03 FFL (C&R) with a certificate of eligibility (COE) and both licenses on file

 - A gun range that will keep the ammunition on their premise

 - A law enforcement agency with written authorization from the head of the agency stating

    that the ammunition is for official use.

 - Los Angeles City

 No ammunition shipments.

 - Marin County

 CCW card must be faxed / emailed (on file) for ammunition purchase as well as the above California requirements.

 - Oakland

 No rifle ammunition shipments.

 - San Francisco

 No "prohibited" ammunition (Black Talon or similar brands).

 Colorado

 No ammunition feeding devices over 15 rounds.

 Connecticut 

 For all valid ammunition and magazine purchases one of the following is required:

- A valid permit to carry a pistol or revolver
 

- A valid permit to sell at retail a pistol or revolver


 - A valid eligibility certificate for a pistol or revolver


 - A valid long gun eligibility certificate
 

 - A valid ammunition certificate and a legal photo ID that shows date of birth and photograph.

 -No ammunition feeding devices over 10 rounds.

 -No .50 caliber Armor Piercing or Incendiary ammo.

 Hawaii

 No ammunition or primer shipments.

 Illinois

 Any resident purchasing ammunition within or outside the State of Illinois must provide the seller with a copy of his   or her valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card (FOID) or valid concealed carry license and either his or her Illinois driver's license or Illinois State Identification Card prior to the shipment of the ammunition. The ammunition may be shipped only to an address on either of those 2 documents.

 - Aurora

 No ammunition feeding devices over 15 rounds (long guns only).

 - Chicago

 No ammunition feeding devices over 15 rounds (shotgun only).

 - Franklin Park

 No ammunition feeding devices over 16 rounds (long guns only).

 - Oak Park

 No ammunition feeding devices over 10 rounds (long guns only).

 - Riverdale

 No ammunition feeding devices over 35 rounds (long guns only).

 Maryland

 No ammunition feeding devices over 10 rounds.

 Massachusetts

 No ammunition.No feeding devices over 10 rounds.

 New Jersey

 FPID card must be faxed / e-mailed. (on file). No ammunition feeding devices over 15 rounds.
 

 New York

 Ammo shipments must go to an FFL dealer or registered Seller of Ammunition. A copy of the FFL / SoA must be sent to us or already be on file.

 No ammunition feeding devices over 10 rounds.

- New York City

 Magazines and feeding devices prohibited. (Not allowed)

- Buffalo / Rochester

 No ammunition feeding devices over 5 rounds for a rifle.

 Washington D.C.

 For all ammunition purchases a valid Firearms Registration Certificate is required.

 -No ammunition feeding devices over 10 rounds.

 -No .50 BMG caliber ammo.

 -No armor piercing ammo.

 Any ammo component such as cases, primers, powder or bullets is considered to be "ammunition" in Washington DC and thus requires a license as well.

 

 We currently will not sell, ship or transport magazines or ammunition to the above states.

-If you intend on buying ammo for the above states, and the order is processed; the order will be cancelled and there will be a 4% restocking, handling, and cancellation fee.*

-This is to cover labor, and processing fees involved with payment procedures during checkout.

Note: You should expect to receive your refund within two weeks, or however long your bank takes to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days). However, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly.
